The United Kingdom and the Republic of Ghana have co-hosted the 17th replenishment of the African Development Fund (ADF-17) Pledging Conference in London, reaffirming their shared commitment to sustainable development and resilience across Africa. Held at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development headquarters, the conference brought together global partners and multilateral donors to mobilise resources for African Development Bank member countries, highlighting Ghana’s leadership on reforms and the UK’s modern partnership approach with Africa.
As a long-standing investor, the UK continues to support the African Development Bank’s focus on climate action, economic recovery, inclusive growth and job creation. The event attracted senior leaders from major international financial institutions, including the African Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank Group, Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa, OPEC Fund for International Development and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Finance, Hon. Thomas Nyarko Ampem MP, said the co-hosting demonstrated Ghana’s commitment to championing Africa’s development priorities and strengthening partnerships that deliver tangible results. He highlighted Ghana’s recent contribution to the Fund, noting that Ghana joined four other African countries in making a collective pledge, marking a historic milestone in African participation.
UK Minister for Development, Jenny Chapman, reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive growth in Africa and welcomed the hosting of the first Private Sector Mobilisation Day in London, recognising the role of the City of London in attracting investment. Both countries emphasised a shift from aid to investment, increased African ownership of development financing, and a shared vision for a prosperous and resilient Africa
